Equiano can be described as black, with reference to the colour of his skin but Equiano as projected in his book cover seems more European. Equaino firstly dressed and groomed like an English man/European. It is also very significant that he has a bible in his hands.Equiano appears in this picture to have assumed the identity of a European man rather than an African.

  1. He left Africa at a very young age, his African identity was rudely and cruelly taken from him before it even developed.. he his still by no means..an African man by blood

  3. I totally agree with you Samkele Mlotywa his African identity was indeed cruelly taken away from him and this happened when he got kidnapped at a very young age. After that he was surrounded by lots of Europeans and I think that is how he started adopting their dress codes and he started dressing like them but other than that, he is an African by blood

  4. the reason why Equano wrote autobiography was to reclaim his identity as he was now more English rather than Africa as he states that he looked upon them men superior so he became so fond to them that he developed a strong desire to resemble them therefore i do agree with Samie that his identity was cruelly taken from him before it even developed so being surrounded by Europeans truly made him to forget who he was
